Aaron Martin is a Director with SunHawk Consulting, LLC. He is a licensed attorney in Arizona and Colorado with over 9 years of experience on regulatory and compliance issues in healthcare, education, and other industries. After clerking in federal court, he worked with two large Phoenix-based law firms and as General Counsel for a $150M+ nonprofit corporation.
Mr. Martin has experience developing and implementing compliance programs for a wide range of businesses and has performed multiple investigations for various clients during his time at Fennemore Craig, PC and Snell and Wilmer, LLP.
Mr. Martin is a member of the Arizona State Committee for the United States Commission on Civil Rights, the American Health Lawyer’s Association and the Arizona Ethics and Compliance Council.
Mr. Martin has worked with companies in a variety of industries to develop and implement compliance programs, and counseled companies under investigation by the federal or state government for issues related to fraud and abuse in government contracts.
Mr. Martin has represented charter, private, K–12, and post-secondary educational institutions and educational services companies in a variety of legal matters. Matters include litigation, intellectual property licensing, employment, contractual drafting and disputes, regulatory compliance, special education, government investigations, subpoena responses, and administrative proceedings. Mr. Martin has also provided training for school boards and nonprofit governing boards. He served as the General Counsel for the largest nonprofit charter school network in Arizona and has experience drafting and revising policies and procedures, handbooks, and related training. He has represented schools in government investigations, including the U.S. Office for Civil Rights (OCR) and the State of Arizona related to discrimination and special education complaints. He also provides counsel regarding a variety of state and federal statutes, including those related to public records, open meeting laws, child custody, FERPA, mandatory reporting requirements, student discipline and grievance processes, and open enrollment.
Mr. Martin represents healthcare providers, medical groups, and academic institutions in regulatory, compliance, and litigation matters. Issues include insurer audits, Medicare overpayments and recoupment, subpoena responses, fraud and abuse, contract formation and disputes, public-private partnerships, graduate medical education, and federal regulatory matters. He advises businesses in developing strategic partnerships and implementing compliance programs. Mr. Martin also performs internal investigations related to range of issues related to compliance, HIPAA compliance and breach mitigation, Title VII sexual harassment, and internal company policies.
